"Email Quota Limit" - A Phishing Attack!

Recently we have received a couple of emails that were an attempt to gain access to our email accounts. This is called Phishing. Phishing is a way of attempting to acquire sensitive information by masquerading as a trustworthy source.

The emails inform you that you have received your “Email Quota Limit”. These emails are not being sent by BANG! Web Site Design, this is merely an attempt to hijack your email account. If your mailbox legitimately gets full you will receive an error message “The size limit of X MB for your mailbox “your email address” has been exceeded.” The message will come from the System Administrator and you will not asked for any kind of personal information.

Below are a couple of samples:

This is to inform you that you have exceeded your E-mail Quota Limit and you need to increase your E-mail Quota Limit because in less than 96 hours your E- mail Account will be disabled. Increase your E-mail Quota Limit and continue to use your Webmail Account.

To increase your E-mail Quota Limit to 2.7GB, You are to send your email account details which are as follows:

USERNAME:
PASSWORD:
CONFIRM PASSWORD:
DATE OF BIRTH:
